Alcohol Calculator

Alcohol Calculator helps to determine the quantity of drinks required for the banquet.

Input Data

  • Number of Men. By default, this is filled with the number of men from the guest list who confirmed their presence at the wedding (or are uncertain), and who are invited to the banquet. This figure includes the groom and male children.
  • Number of Women. By default, this is filled with the number of women from the guest list who confirmed their presence at the wedding (or are uncertain), and who are invited to the banquet. This figure includes the bride and female children.
  • Number of Non-Drinkers. This figure includes children as well as guests who indicated that they would not drink alcohol. As each invitation contains only one survey, the "Will not drink alcohol" response applies to all guests within that invitation. For an accurate count of non-drinkers, it’s important to include all children in the invitations and to mark them as children.
  • How Much Guests Drink. A certain level of alcohol consumption. This can range from “low” to “high.”
  • Banquet Duration. The duration of the banquet affects the amount of drinks consumed.

Calculation Method

The calculation is based on the following quantities:

  • For Men: 400 ml of strong alcohol, 400 ml of wine, 350 ml of champagne
  • For Women: 130 ml of strong alcohol, 450 ml of wine, 350 ml of champagne.
  • For Everyone: 700 ml of water per guest.
  • For Everyone: 1200 ml of juice for non-drinkers, 600 ml for male drinkers, and 1000 ml for female drinkers.

This calculation is for a banquet lasting 6 hours during the summer for average drinkers.

How Much Guests Drink

If guests drink a little, the quantity decreases by 40%, and if they drink a lot, it increases by 60%. Conversely, the amount of non-alcoholic beverages adjusts proportionally – the more alcohol on the table, the less non-alcoholic beverages are needed.

Season

In warm weather, more water and juices are required, and less strong alcohol, while in cold weather, more strong alcohol and less water and juices are needed. The application automatically makes adjustments (within 20%) depending on the wedding date.

Banquet Duration

The necessary amount of beverages is directly related to the duration of the banquet. If the banquet lasts more than 6 hours, more drinks are needed, and if it’s shorter, fewer drinks are needed. For example, for a 12-hour banquet, 70% more alcohol is needed.

Preferences

It is considered that men prefer strong alcohol, and women prefer wine. When choosing between vodka and cognac, usually 1 bottle of cognac is served for every 3 bottles of vodka. Most women prefer red wine over white. Dry red wine is more commonly served than semi-sweet.

Without a guest survey, the calculator relies on these assumptions. However, the type of wine depends on the dishes served. Therefore, when choosing wine, it is advisable not to rely solely on the values calculated by the calculator.

Guest Survey

If a digital invitation includes a survey with a question about alcohol preferences, the preferences of the guests also impact the calculation result. For example, if more guests choose cognac over vodka, this will be reflected in the calculator. The same applies to red or white wine. However, guest preferences indicated in the survey can only partially adjust the calculation. For instance, if all guests choose cognac, the calculator will dilute it with 25% vodka to ensure variety and cost savings. In any case, it’s good to consult with experienced wedding planners before making purchases.
